The collection consists primarily of Esther Lawton's reference files. It includes many governmental and professional publications and reports relating to position classification and job evaluation, often containing Ms. Lawton's handwritten notes. publications pertaining to International Women's Year (1975) and International Women's Decade (1975-1985); and a collection of subject files. Information pertaining to women's rights and the Equal Rights Amendment form a substantial component of the collection. These include a wide range of documents, including women's rights group newsletters and publications; government publications for public consumption as well as internal to federal agencies and departments; publications pertaining to International Women's Year (1975) and International Women's Decade (1975-1985); and a collection of subject files.
